I learned last week that my weekly editorial column in National Underwriter, “A View From The Press Box”–the print counterpart to this blog–is up for an award!
It seems my column has been chosen as a finalist for a regional Azbee Award, given out by the American Society of Business Publication Editors. The only question now is whether I will receive the Gold, Silver or Bronze award. Now I know how the Olympians feel!
The two columns submitted for the entry dealt with two of the biggest personalities in the industry–Maurice “Hank” Greenberg, now head of C.V. Starr, and Eliot Spitzer, the former attorney general and governor of New York, soon to co-host his own political talk show on CNN.
The two columns are headlined “Spitzer's Comeback” and “The Cult Of Greenberg.” Check them out!
I'll know which award I've been granted at ASBPE's award dinner on July 28.
This comes on the heels of this blog of mine being named a finalist in this year's American Business Media Neal Award program. (I lost out to a blog in a truckers magazine, but am not bitter. LOL!)
It's always gratifying to be recognized by one's professional peers, but I especially want to thank my readers–in print and on the Web–who have offered me such support over my years of opinion-making, and who have let me have it when they think I'm dead wrong. Both the column and the blog have been valuable vehicles to spark debate about the industry's strengths, shortcomings and challenges.
