Willis Group Holdings plc said it has opened an office in Kazakhstan, the third such office the insurance broker has opened in the former Soviet Union.

The other branches are in Russia and the Ukraine.

Willis also announced that Simon Aubrey-Jones, executive director, Willis Eastern Europe, will lead its Kazakhstan venture. Mr. Aubrey-Jones, who is based in London, has been involved with Willis' Russian and Ukrainian representative offices since their establishment in the 1990s, the firm said.

The new Willis operation is located in Almaty, the financial center of Kazakhstan, the brokerage said. As a representative office, all local contracts and policies will be issued through Willis' existing network partner in the country, CIS Risk Consultants, a Kazakhstan brokerage that provides a full range of insurance services.

In Chicago, Willis said it has named Greg Martens executive vice president and managing director of its Human Capital practice there.

Mr. Martens will advise employee benefits clients and be responsible for client service and sales development. He reports to Michael Liss, managing partner of Willis Chicago.

He joins Willis from Aon Consulting, where he was the Chicago market leader responsible for consulting operations and sales in health and benefits, retirement and human capital.
