Several names appear in the Florida Underwriter masthead every month and as bylines in stories. Those contributing editors — Sharon Moorhead, Phil Galewitz, Tim Hoelle, and Gary Fineout — regularly provide invaluable insight, analysis, and information to our readers. It is not hyperbole to say we could not create this magazine without them. As we mark our 25th year of publication, we take the opportunity to tell you a bit about each of them and to acknowledge their contributions to Florida Underwriter.

Sharon Moorhead is probably the contributing editor most familiar to many of our readers. She has been an integral part of Florida Underwriter since 1999, working with three different editors. In addition to being the “institutional memory” of the magazine, she also has the task of updating the Meetings Calendar in each issue, and stays in contact with many agent and industry groups via phone and e-mail.

In the past year, she has branched out and developed the popular Q&A features. Her impressive portfolio of Q&A columns includes discussions with a variety of industry people, regulators, and leaders of consumer and business groups.

Moorhead lives in St. Petersburg, where in addition to her work with Florida Underwriter, she does copywriting, editing, and resume writing for other clients.

She may be contacted at 727-526-7553; [email protected].

Phil Galewitz has been a steady contributor to Florida Underwriter for over seven years. Although his primary focus is on healthcare issues, his broad knowledge of all things insurance often makes him the go-to person for Market Watch articles and general interest stories.

In addition to his contributions to our magazine, Galewitz is a health writer for The Palm Beach Post, a position he has held for 10 of the past 13 years. He is a member of Association of Health Care Journalist's board of directors and editor of its quarterly newsletter, HealthBeat. In 2004-05, he was a Kaiser Family Foundation Media Fellow and spent the year researching and writing about community solutions to the uninsured. He was a national heath writer with The Associated Press, worked as a health writer for The Patriot-News in Harrisburg, Pa., and has contributed to several national magazines, including Self, Redbook and Glamour.

He may be contacted at [email protected].

Tim Hoelle, CIC, is our resident insurance/surplus lines agent and our expert on the excess and surplus market, especially the commercial side. He is vice president of Florida operations for the W.N. Tuscano Agency, a Pennsylvania-based wholesale insurance broker.

Active in industry organizations on both state and national levels, Hoelle is a member of the National Association of Surplus Lines Offices and currently serves on the organization's technology and information committees. He also is a member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society and volunteers with the FAIA-sponsored InVEST program in St. Petersburg.

In addition to his insurance expertise, Hoelle is well versed in business consulting, marketing, sales, branding, and management, and writes many of our Business Trends columns.

He may be contacted at 866-442-8063 ext. 171; [email protected]; www.tuscano.com.

Gary Fineout may be the newest name on our contributing editors' roster, but he is hardly new to reporting or the legislative arenas. Prior to forming TallahasseeReporters.com with fellow scribe (and wife) Christine Sexton last year, Gary was the Tallahassee correspondent for the Miami Herald, and before that, a reporter for the Tallahassee Democrat, New York Times Regional Newspapers, and Daytona Beach News-Journal. He contributes to The New York Times, Associated Press, and other media in addition to Florida Underwriter.

Our “Man in Tallahassee,” Fineout knows his way around the Capitol better than any of us. Every month, he provides valuable insight into the workings (or non-workings) of our elected officials and regulators. Widely acknowledged as a first-rate writer and analyst, he has become our primary reporter for news on the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund and Citizens Property Insurance Corp.

He may be contacted at 850-251-2317; [email protected].
