Chilly economic winds have killed off an insurance trade organization's plans for a climate issues conference.
The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies announced that it was cancelling its planned conference on climate issues scheduled for March.
The conference hoped to provide a comprehensive forum for an exchange of information on the aspects of climate change and how they will affect insurers.
This was to be the first year of the conference, and the lack of name recognition, combined with tightening travel budgets at most companies, contributed to its cancellation, the organization explained.
Nancy Grover, media relations director for the NAMIC, said “There is definite interest in the topic, but due to a combination of factors, the conference was not viable this year.”
