American International Group announced appointments of a new chief executive and chief operating officer for its AIG Environmental unit which has lately seen defections by several executives.

The company said Russell Johnston has been named president and CEO of AIG Environmental and Kimberly Hanna has been named executive vice president and COO and will report to Mr. Johnston.

AIG Environmental, a unit of AIG Commercial Insurance, is a pollution liability provider. Mr. Johnston will replace Joseph Boren, who has left the company. He will report directly to John Q Doyle, president and CEO of AIG Commercial Insurance, the company said.

Two weeks ago Adrien Robinson, an underwriter and underwriting manager for the Chicago, St. Louis and Cleveland offices for AIG Environmental, left for Navigators Environmental with Gregory Heidemann and Patrick Crotty, both of whom held the title of assistant vice president in AIG Environmental's Chicago office.

Ms. Hanna, the new COO, has been with AIG since 1996 and has held various positions within the Environmental Unit. CEO Johnston has been with AIG since 1990 and has served in various management positions within AIG's Risk Management Group.

Mr. Doyle in a statement noted that Mr. Johnston has over 20 years of underwriting and management experience in the property-casualty industry. He said he was excited about the new executives leading AIG Environmental's senior team and that he expects “continued strong performance from that organization.”
