Congress has passed a temporary extension of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which will expire March 6, 2009.
Initially set to expire on September 20, 2008, the ending of the NFIP would have resulted in millions of consumers without flood insurance coverage.
The temporary extension should allow Congress to continue negotiating differences between the House and Senate versions of the Flood Insurance Reform and Modernization (FIRM) Act of 2007. Both versions would extend the program for 5 years.
