As Texas and Louisiana continue recovering from this month's hurricane disasters, several reinsurers and insurers are releasing expected financial implications and claim counts from the storms.

Reinsurer PartnerRe today announced that its early estimate of claims relating to its exposure to Hurricane Ike is currently between $175-$210 million on a pre-tax basis, net of reinstatement premiums.

In addition, the company revised down its estimate of claims relating to its exposure to Hurricane Gustav to $10-$20 million on a pre-tax basis, net of reinstatement premiums, from its original estimate of $25-$45 million.

"The third quarter has been active in terms of Atlantic hurricanes," said PartnerRe President & CEO Patrick Thiele, in a release. "We typically expect to incur larger catastrophe related claims in the second half of the year, and as a result, PartnerRe earns a proportionally higher level of catastrophe-exposed premiums in the third quarter and second half of the year. This partially mitigates the impact on results of third quarter and second-half, catastrophe-related losses."

Reinsurer Swiss Re also announced that, based on current estimates, it expects its net claims for Hurricane Gustav to be approximately $50 million, and for Hurricane Ike approximately $250 million.

Meanwhile, a steady stream of insurer updates was released this week. State Farm, the largest insurer of homes and autos on the Gulf Coast, reported that it has received 14,000 calls from customers needing assistance from Hurricane Ike. It said that about 1,100 agents, agents' staff, and claim employees living and working in the impacted areas are already servicing thousands of policyholders. But the company was careful to note that these demands would not affect the progress being made on the more-than 50,000 claims it received from Hurricane Gustav.

Meadowbrook Insurance Group said that its claims from Hurricane Gustav are primarily limited to Louisiana, and that it has approximately $1.4 million in known claims. The company said that the potential claims from Hurricane Ike are not as certain due to the broad geographic area impacted by the storm and the fact that power and telephone services have not been fully restored to these areas, but said that it has more than $1 million in known claims.

Unitrin, Inc. reported that Hurricane Ike claims are currently estimated to range from $35-$45 million. Unitrin also reaffirmed its previous announcement that its losses, net of the effects of reinsurance, related to Hurricane Gustav are estimated to range from $10-$15 million after tax.

Also racking up tens of thousands of claims was Farmers Insurance Group, which said that it has received more than 50,000 Ike-related claims as of Sept. 23.
