When asked to choose between companionship and the thrill of the open road, many bikers opted for the latter. In fact, virtually all hardcore riders said that they would willingly part with their spouse or a significant other before their beloved motorcycle, according to a consumer study commissioned by Allstate Insurance Company. The online study also revealed that riders across all classifications were twice as likely to give up their TVs before their motorcycles.
Approximately 500 male bikers nationwide completed the survey, and their responses were weighted to represent the total population. Allstate said that it developed the study to stay abreast of the changing demographics and interests of motorcycle riders.
The survey prompted participants to select a biker classification, such as a “sports-bike enthusiast,” “stressed-out executive,” “hardcore biker,” or “weekend warrior.” The latter led the field with a 31 percent response rate. The majority of the respondents who were unable to readily identify with these categories were self-labeled “Baby Boomer” riders.
