Aon Corporation received a 100 percent rating for the second year in a row in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's (HRCF) Corporate Equality Index.
The index measures the extent to which businesses protected their gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender employees, consumers and investors.
Aon was one of the 259 major U.S. businesses to receive the 100 percent rating out of the 583 businesses that the index rated. The index's ratings are based on such factors as nondiscrimination policies, diversity training, and benefits for domestic partners and transgender employees.
In a statement, Greg Case, chief executive officer of Aon, said, "Aon is committed to providing a diverse and productive work environment, and we are honored to achieve this recognition from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for the second year in a row. This award is indicative of our position as the destination of choice for the best talent, not only in the insurance and human consulting industries, but within the global business community."
Aon said that since 2006, it has launched two global metrics for measuring success on its diversity objectives, designed to "[embrace] the client needs and talent imperatives of each community served by Aon, and to cascade those strategies from the executive level all the way down to the newest employee."
Diversity objectives at the brokerage, according to Aon spokesman David Prosperi, include regionalized efforts to create business networking groups and local diversity councils focused on professional development, with an eye towards creating inclusive teams. Mr. Prosperi said that Aon has, for example, an African American networking group; Aon pride, which is Aon's gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender networking group; a Latino networking group; a disabilities networking group; and a networking group for women.
Mr. Prosperi also cited a program launched last year designed to help high-potential women from 13 countries progress along their career paths.
