Working on consumers’ behalf to resolve complaints, the Insurance Department staff recovered $630,424 during the second quarter, reported Insurance Commissioner Thomas R. Sullivan.

Department staff received 1,372 new complaints/inquiries in the second quarter, which signaled a slight drop from the approximately 1,500 received during the first quarter. It is important to note that not all of the inquiries and complaints that the department receives are subject to recovery. They vary by insurance product line. This quarter, 55 percent — or $348,195 — of the recovered funds came from complaints related to accident and health product lines, while 17 percent ($105,843) came from property & casualty product lines.
