Swiss Re, Zurich, said Stefan Lippe has been named deputy chief executive officer and will assume the role of chief operating officer as of Sept. 1, succeeding Andreas Beerli, who announced he will retire June 30, 2009.
Before the promotion, Mr. Lippe served as head of reinsurance products and member of the executive committee. As deputy CEO and COO he will oversee global information technology, global technical accounting and service, claims and liability management, group legal, group logistics, and product development and strategy, the firm said.
The reinsurance company has also appointed Brian Gray, head of property and specialty underwriting, to the position of chief underwriting officer and member of the executive committee.
Mr. Beerli will remain a member of the executive committee and continue to assist the CEO in various projects until his retirement, Swiss Re said.
