A Tennessee man may have threatened the world record for most counts of workers' compensation fraud after he was charged with an astounding 193 violations of Virginia's insurance fraud statute.

William Pickel, who lived in Blountville, Tenn., was working for a trucking company in Virginia when in 1994 he was involved in a traffic accident. As a result of the accident, Pickel began drawing workers' compensation in Virginia. He allegedly went on to draw the full 500 weeks of workers' comp payments, bringing the total approximate claim to $150,000.

However, an investigation by the Virginia State Police (VSP) revealed that Pickel was receiving workers' compensation for his 1994 injury while he was operating a power washing business, as well as driving for another trucking company. When he reached the 500 week limit for workers' compensation, Pickel applied for Social Security Disability Insurance from the federal government.
