The Workers’ Compensation Research Institute (WCRI), an independent, not-for-profit research organization that provides information about public policy issues involving workers’ compensation systems, has released the eighth edition of its CompScope report. In this edition, two main questions are examined: How does the performance of a state system compare with that of other states and how is workers’ compensation system performance changing over time?

The states included in this edition are Arkansas, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin, which WCRI says represent more than 50 percent of the nation’s workers’ compensation benefit payments. The report can help policymakers and others benchmark a state’s system performance or a company’s workers’ compensation program. They said the benchmarks they provide also offer an excellent baseline for tracking the effectiveness of policy changes and identifying important trends.
