Independent catastrophe adjusters looking for work have been given the go-ahead in Nevada after a weekend of damaging rain, heavy snow, and high winds hammered the northern part of the state.

In a statement released over the weekend, insurance commissioner Alice A. Molasky-Arman gave temporary approval for non-resident adjusters to adjust claims for damage caused by the storms. This will assist insurance companies in expediting claims and assessing the amount of damages. Normally, only resident adjusters are permitted to handle claims, but Nevada law allows the commissioner to make exceptions during catastrophes. In addition, her agency has contacted major insurers in the area to make certain enough adjusting teams are available, which Arman said would increase the speed of benefit payments for property damage.
