The CPCU Society's Annual Meeting and Seminars was held in Hawaii last month. The meeting boasted more than 7,000 attendees — including CPCUs, their guests, exhibitors, and other attendees — making it the second largest annual meeting in the Society's 63-year history.
Nearly 4,000 newly designated CPCUs were honored at the American Institute for CPCU's conferment ceremony. In addition, CPCUs were there to enjoy networking receptions, educational seminars, and general sessions. Forty seminars were offered over the course of three days, covering both technical and career-development topics. Two seminars focused on claim-related topics: the "Mock Trial" and "A Case Study of a Litigated Liability Claim." In addition to the mock trial, there were 10 other seminars that offered continuing education credits.
The opening general session featured keynote speaker James Bradley, New York Times bestselling author of Flags of Our Fathers, which was made into a feature film directed by Clint Eastwood. Bradley urged attendees to write down their "impossible dreams." During the annual business meeting, attendees witnessed the installation of the CPCU Society's 2007-2008 president, James L. Britt, CPCU, a managing director with Marsh USA Inc. in Charlotte, N.C.
