Earlier this year, Claims put a call out to its readers and subscribers, asking for nominations for our Claim Professional of the Year. The award, sponsored by the law firm of Smith & Brink, P.C., is presented annually at the magazine's ACE America's Claim Event Conference and Exhibition in an effort to recognize the consummate claim professional who leads by example and is a catalyst for claim-handling improvement.

We couldn't have found a more deserving winner in Maryann Iannuzzo, first vice president for HUB International Northeast. Below is an excerpt from her nomination, which was submitted by two of Maryann's coworkers.

“Many of Ms. Iannuzzo's claim-related achievements have been the result of her rapid responsiveness to clients in situations of dire need when major claims arise. During two of the most challenging times in our country's history, 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, she provided unparalleled leadership in handling some of the most severe claims ever seen.

“For example, her efforts in quickly presenting well-documented claims to the carriers for a large law firm and stock brokerage — both of which had offices on the upper floors of the World Trade Center and suffered the devastating loss of staff — were instrumental in obtaining a quick resolution of their substantial insurance claims. This enabled the clients to stay in business by applying the proceeds to restarting their operations.

“During Hurricane Katrina's aftermath, Maryann understood that getting the attention of the limited number of available adjusters would be key to resolving losses quickly, which was crucial to limit the mold infestation of the damaged buildings. She immediately put together a crisis team of adjusters, carriers, builders, and other emergency service trades by leveraging her strong relationships with the best in each of these disciplines. With Maryann's prodding, the builders commenced work even when it was nearly impossible to travel into the area.

“Maryann's in-depth knowledge of claims is impressive, but more impressive is the professional manner in which she guides the clients through the claim process and assists in getting the best claim payment for them. She does this with integrity and with the respect of the clients, her staff, the senior management of HUB, and the insurance carriers.”

On behalf of Smith & Brink, P.C. and Claims Magazine, we would like to congratulate Maryann on a job well done!
