Good managers are vital to virtual workers

(The following article is based on Ms. Rubin’s presentation at the AMS Users’ Group National Conference, which was held in March in Orlando, Fla.) Since the dawn of the Information Age, few terms have been tossed about more than “virtual.” It’s come to mean many things to many people, but the best definition I’ve read for our context here is “… capability that eliminates the need for workers to go to a central location to do their jobs.” Instead, virtual employees work from virtual “branch offices”: homes, hotels, buses, planes, trains, parks, zoos or the nearest coffee shop.
