The Hurricane Law Group, a law firm specializing in natural disaster litigation, has taken legal action against the Citizens Property Insurance Corporation in a case involving window damage caused by Hurricane Wilma.

According to a release from the Hurricane Law Group, Citizens allegedly failed to pay or properly adjust claims in the two counties and ignored Florida building code requirements , which state that hurricane-damaged windows must be replaced by high-impact glass or non-impact glass along with a hurricane shutter. It is alleged that Citizens' policyholders were paid only for simple glass window replacements.

“This is a public safety issue that impacts all of South Florida,” said Paul Berger, managing attorney of the Hurricane Law Group, in a release. “Homeowners relied upon Citizens' adjusters to conduct fair and honest damage evaluations after Hurricane Wilma. We believe that these damage evaluations were intentionally incorrect and shows Citizens' utter disregard for the safety of South Floridians.”
