Reinsurance brokerage firm Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC, announced that Salvatore D. Zaffino has retired as chairman.

The firm, a subsidiary of New York-based professional services company Marsh & McLennan Companies, said Mr. Zaffino will continue in the role of nonexecutive chairman. In this capacity, he will work in a consultative role with senior management at both Guy Carpenter and MMC.

A spokeswoman with Guy Carpenter said there are no plans to fill the chairman's position and David Spiller, president and chief executive officer, is heading operations.

Mr. Zaffino was appointed chairman of Guy Carpenter in 1999. He previously served as chairman and CEO of Sedgwick Re North America from 1993 to 1998. From 1985 to 1993, he was chairman of Crump Re, an organization he created and continued to manage until its merger with Sedgwick Re.
