Arbitrations between insurance companies in claims dispute matters rose almost 10 percent in 2006, according to a nonprofit, inter-insurance dispute resolution services provider.

Tampa, Fla.-based Arbitration Forums hit a new record resolving more than $2.2 billion in inter-company claim disputes in 2006, reported D. Kay Smith, the firm's chief executive officer.

At the same time, the number of arbitration filings rose 9.3 percent, totaling more than 480,000 cases, also a new record.
