The role that the World Trade Center Captive Insurance Company played after the attack on the Twin Towers will be a topic at the upcoming Captive Insurance Companies Association Conference.

Planners of the event on March 11-13 in Tucson, Ariz., said it will also present several sessions on regulatory issues.

CICA said that a session titled “WTC Captive: The Compelling Story Comes to Light” would feature WTC Captive Insurance Company President and Chief Executive Officer Christine LaSala, discussing how the captive has operated since Sept. 11, 2001 “following the most significant event in recent history.”

The keynote speaker will be veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas.

CICA President Dennis P. Harwick noted that a session on the future of captives features D. Hugh Rosenbaum, retired principal, Tillinghast; Ernst Csiszar, former president of Property Casualty Insurers Association of America and South Carolina insurance commissioner; and Mark Jablonowski, with Conning Research & Consulting.

High on the agenda, he said, is a discussion of increased government regulation. CICA said it is “asking the tough questions and ensuring that the captive community has a seat at the table when new regulatory structures are being considered.”

Other session topics include:

o The Future of Captives, Captive Tax Update

o To File or Not to File: The DOL Process for an Employee Benefits Captive

o How Will Captives and Risk Retention Groups Be Regulated in the Future?

o Accounting for Captives

o Pensions in a Captive

o Compliance: An Update & Projection

o When Did Alternative Risk Transfer Become Alternative Risk Finance?

CICA advised that the cutoff date for early-bird discounts for the conference is Feb. 1. For information or registration, visit www.cicaworld.com.
