A meeting seeking solutions to coastal insurance issues will be held by the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York Inc. on Feb. 5 in Albany, N.Y., the group said.
IIABNY said the Coastal Markets Summit would be a strategy session featuring industry notables including Robert P. Hartwig, president and chief economist for the Insurance Information Institute.
The day following the summit, agents will visit with state legislators at the capitol in Albany.
Mr. Hartwig, who also serves as an IIABNY director-at-large, will present a segment titled “Coastal Risks–National Trends Overview.”
“This is an excellent opportunity to create dialog between carrier representatives and other industry organizations to collectively focus on a market concern that has plagued New York for some time,” said Michael Barrett, IIABNY legislative representative, in a statement.
The meeting will include an open dialog and strategy discussion with industry leaders, moderated by Sharon Emek, IIABNY's chair and director of CBS Coverage Group in New York City.
The event will be held at Albany's Crowne Plaza Hotel. The following day, Feb. 6, IIABNY holds its “L” Day session for agents and brokers to meet with their respective state legislators and discuss topics affecting New York's insurance community.
Kathy Weinheimer, senior vice president of industry relations for IIABNY, said the meeting will seek to develop a strategy for dealing with market problems, especially on Long Island, and strive to come up with solutions. The summit will involve several trade associations and insurance company members in the day's discussions.
The event will be open to agents attending the legislative conference the following day, she said, but they will need to contact her directly if they wish to attend the Coastal Summit meeting.
Registration and additional information for “L” Day is available online at www.iiabny.org, and Ms. Weinheimer can be contacted at (800) 962-7950 to arrange attendance.
