State Farm said today its losses from the ice storm that has blanketed the United States could reach $26 million nationwide, as other insures are continuing to see claims pour in.

A spokesman for the Bloomington, Ill.-based insurer said in a very preliminary estimate, that losses from its catastrophe unit are projected to be about $26 million, but are still subject to change as claims arrive.

So far, the company has received approximately 8,400 claims from four states, all property claims. California has seen 1,200 claims, Missouri 3,000, Oklahoma 3,500 and Arizona 700.
