Hamilton, Bermuda-based Validus Holdings, Ltd. said it has filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering of its common shares.

Validus is a specialized provider of reinsurance that conducts global operations through its wholly-owned subsidiary Validus Reinsurance, Ltd.

The company said its registration statement has been filed with the SEC but has not yet become effective. The company further advised that the securities may not be sold, nor may offers to buy be accepted prior to the time the registration statement becomes effective.
