The insurance commissioner of Delaware and regulators in 12 other states have filed a brief supporting two cases brought by consumers over insurer use of credit records that is now before the U.S. Supreme Court, with oral arguments scheduled for Jan. 16.

The action seeks to require insurers to inform consumers of an adverse auto rating based on their credit score.

Delaware Insurance Commissioner Matt Denn filed a "friend of the court" brief with the Supreme Court in the cases of Safeco v. Burr and GEICO v. Edo.
