While Lloyd's players walking the floors burdened with huge stacks of paper might make a charming sight, it does not promote efficiency, which is why leading claims experts have supported Lloyd's Chief Executive Officer Richard Ward in his call for the London market to start processing claims electronically as soon as possible.

During a panel debate at Xchanging's annual conference in Brighton late last month, experts praised the market's vision for claims management and said the time was right to move "at the pace of the fastest." In an earlier speech, Mr. Ward had called for all claims to be processed electronically by the end of the year.

"This is a major step forward in our drive for a paperless market," he said.
