Marsh, the world's leading risk and insurance brokerage, announced that Martin South, formerly with Zurich, has been appointed chief executive officer of UK operations in London.

The New York-based firm said Mr. South, in the newly-created position, will report to Alex Moczarski, CEO of Marsh, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Mr. South since 2004 has been CEO International Businesses at Zurich Financial Services and a member of the Group Management Board, responsible for all of Zurich's operations outside North America and Europe, including emerging markets with a particular focus on China, Marsh said.

Prior to joining Zurich, Mr. South spent 12 years at Marsh in wholesale broking, principally with international clients.

Brian Storms, chairman and CEO, Marsh Inc., said Mr. South's decision to rejoin Marsh is “further proof of our ability to attract the top talent in our industry.”

Mr. South commented, “Shareholders are demanding that companies put managing risk at the center of their agenda. Independent insight-led advice will continue to be at a premium.

“I am very much looking forward to returning to Marsh at a time when there is among companies a large and increasing appetite to understand and manage risk and make the most of the opportunities available to them.

“As well as working hard to cement Marsh's position as the world's pre-eminent broker, I see it as crucial to build on the strong growth in the risk consulting business, where Marsh already holds the leading position.”
