Tom Gallagher is gone, and Alex Sink – a relatively new face in Tallahassee – is in as CFO. However, there are still some "old pros" around in the legislature. Senator Bill Posey (R – Rockledge), is all-but-certain to be named Banking & Insurance Chair, a post he held in 2003 and 2004. When contacted, Posey stated, "I don't think the Senate president has made any permanent committee assignments yet. At this point, I have assumed the 'point' on his behalf for any special session that might occur between now and the regular session."
While not "official" chair yet, Posey did respond to several questions on what he thinks the upcoming sessions may bring in the insurance arena.
Q. You have been quoted that you thought lawmakers had been "sandbagged" by the insurance companies during the last session, when they filed dramatic rate increases in the final days. Those huge rate-increase requests have escalated since then. Will you be holding insurance companies' feet to the fire this session?
