The captive insurance market is far from saturated, with 36 percent of large global companies having no captive insurer, a new research report revealed last week.

Additionally, the Aon "G500 Captive Report" found U.S. companies owned a smaller percentage of captives than businesses in the United Kingdom and France.

The Aon study said the U.S. accounts for 170 of the Global 500 companies. Out of that number, there are 131 captive owners identified, meaning that 77 percent of the G500 U.S. companies have captives.
