A former claim adjuster for the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund (MAIF) was sentenced and placed on probation for felony theft, according to a statement released by the Maryland Attorney General’s Office.

According to the release, Karla E. Biven, 36, had fraudulently added fictitious claimants to legitimate automobile accident claims and then disbursed approximately $7,366 in fraudulent claims settlements to an acquaintance in at least two separate instances in 2004. Biven’s activities were discovered after an internal audit by MAIF.
