Willis Group Holdings in London said the brokerage has expanded its international mergers and acquisition practice into Australia with a new team, based in Sydney.

The firm said the move is part of a strategy to increase market share in the Asia and Australia regions, which follows the creation of dedicated merger and acquisition teams in Japan and Hong Kong earlier this year.

Willis said Josh Roach, who recently returned to Sydney after spending eight months working as part of Willis' merger and acquisition management team in London, will head the Australian unit.

The brokerage noted that Mr. Roach, while in London, had led Willis' advisory team for what it described as "the largest Australian management buy-out to date."

According to Willis, the Australian team will focus on the provision of due diligence and transactional insurance products and services arising from mergers, acquisitions, divestments, reconstructions and formal insolvencies. Clients will include private equity firms, investment banks, professional firms and major corporations.
