Independent agents and brokers can now earn their environmental Strategist (eS) designation online through the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America Big “I” Virtual University.

IIABA said the class will equip agents and brokers with the knowledge to understand and analyze the risk involved in environmental issues, resulting in better all-around products to deliver to their clients.

Designates are provided with a variety of additional benefits for one year, including unlimited use of a reference library containing hundreds of published environmental risk related articles, a quarterly eStrategist newsletter and full access to a glossary of environmental acronyms and terms.

“The eS designation is important because every commercial business faces either direct or indirect environmental issues,” said Chris Bunbury, president of Environmental Strategist Inc., which will partner with the Big “I” Virtual University in the project.

Agents and brokers who are not discussing environmental issues with their clients should know that when their client is underinsured for an environmental loss, the only coverage the insured may have is their agent's errors and omissions insurance, he added.

“This is a very important aspect of commercial insurance that agents may be overlooking,” said Madelyn Flannagan, vice president of Education and Research for the IIABA, which operates the Big “I” Virtual University.
