Ron Lockton has been named president of Lockton Companies Inc.'s Kansas City, Mo., brokerage operations.

Mr. Lockton, 40, is the son of John T. "Jack" Lockton, the firm's founder who died in March of 2004. The firm is the nation's largest independently owned insurance brokerage.

Ron Lockton has been with the company since 1991. He will continue to work from Lockton's headquarters in Kansas City as president and continue his business service and client service responsibilities, the firm said.

A company spokesman said the move is part of the firm's succession plan put in place some years ago. As part of that plan, Grover Simpson has stepped down as president of the Kansas City operations, but remains senior executive vice president.

"This announcement is consistent with the leadership plan that Jack Lockton, [Chairman] David Lockton and I put in place in 1999, and assures the continuance of our client-focused, associate-focused and community-focused culture," said Mr. Simpson.

He added, "Ron is a great partner, and I am very excited about working with the next generation of the Lockton family to guard the values that are so important to our clients and associates. Additionally, I am looking forward to representing and servicing my clients."

Ron Lockton said he intended to continue an undistracted focus on customers and associates "as we work to make a great company even better."

Founded in 1966, the firm has 18 offices nationwide and clients in more than 80 countries.
