The Foundation for Agency Management Excellence (FAME) announced four recipients of its $5,000 scholarships to pursue careers in risk management and insurance.

FAME, a charitable operation of the Washington, D.C.-based Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers, said the first four scholarship awards will go to:

o Khadine Adams, a junior at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

o Greg Cohen, a senior at the University of Georgia Terry College of Business at Athens, Ga.

o Jessica Hussong, a senior at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Wis.

o Mandy Holden, a senior at California State University at Sacramento, Calif.

Eligible students must be juniors or seniors with a 3.0 or better grade point average and have a declared major in risk management and insurance.

CIAB said the scholarships are a new initiative by FAME to encourage more young people to consider the field of risk management and insurance as a profession.

“We are delighted to launch this scholarship initiative, and we are committed to expanding the program to help more schools and more students in coming years,” said Fred C. Burns, co-chairman of the FAME board of directors and chairman and managing director, John L. Wortham & Son, L.P., of Houston.

“Commercial insurance underwriters, brokers and agents understand how critical it is to develop new talent and attract young people to our business. These scholarships will help in that important undertaking,” said Frederick J. de Grosz, co-chairman of ABD Insurance & Financial Services Inc. of Redwood City, Calif., and co-chairman of the FAME board.
