American International Group Inc. said it has launched a program to benefit children's charities in England that could be a foundation for expanding its charitable giving throughout the world.
The New York-based insurer said its AIG Goals for Kids plans to donate ?1,000 (U.S. $1,879 at current exchange rate) for each goal that the Manchester United Football Club scores during any FA Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup or Carling Cup game during the 2006-2007 soccer season. The team's first match was yesterday.
The money will go to children's charity in the United Kingdom or Ireland.
AIG is a principal sponsor of Manchester United Football Club.
