Claims News Service, August 1, 10:26 p.m. EDT — The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a tropical storm warning for a number of islands located in the Atlantic Ocean, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

According to the NHC, Tropical Storm Chris is moving northwest at nine miles per hour and is expected to continue to move at this speed over the next 24 hours. Maximum wind speeds are topping out at 40 mph and a strengthening is expected. Currently, tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles.

If the storm continues in its current direction, it would put it on course to make landfall at or near the southeast coast of the U.S.

More information as it becomes available.
