Risk managers with early renewal dates and long-term relationships with their carriers so far have fared best when dealing with underwriters cautious about most property-catastrophe risks–and not just those in hurricane-prone regions–although times have been easier in casualty lines, buyers say.

Mary Lynn Bangs, director of risk management with Omni Hotels Corp. in Irving, Texas, said her property renewals were "a little bit of a bath, but the casualty went very well. We had decreases in every line–liability, auto and umbrella."

Ms. Bangs, who is also vice chair of the Risk and Insurance Management Society's Conference Programming Committee, said her company completed its property and casualty renewals on March 1 and May 1, respectively.
