An employee of Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company has been arrested for his part in filing fraudulent auto accident claims in California.
Scott Bobrow was one of six claimants involved in a series of fraudulent accident claims, according to the California Department of Insurance. His greed, along with his alleged gambling and drug addictions, led him to use his position to obtain money in order to feed his addictions. He is accused of listing the five other defendants as claimants for accidents they were not involved in. He compensated his accomplices by doling out more than $15,000.
Bobrow allegedly reopened closed claim files and inserted the new names in an attempt to avoid suspicions. However, Nationwide noticed the activity and referred the case to California's Department of Insurance. The department's special investigative unit conducted an investigation, which led to the arrests and charges of grand theft fraud.
