Joey Buttafuoco, who gained infamy when his 17-year-old lover, Amy Fisher, shot his wife, recently pleaded guilty to auto insurance fraud and was sentenced to a year in jail, five years of probation, and more than $4,600 in restitution, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. As a result of a plea agreement, two counts of insurance fraud and one count of grand theft involving his body shop were dropped.

Following Fisher’s assault on his wife, Buttafuoco, a Long Island, N.Y., auto body shop owner, emigrated to California’s San Fernando Valley, where he became the co-owner of California Collision of Chatsworth. A sting operation last December netted 11 owners or employees of Southern California auto repair shops, including Buttafuoco. Prosecutors alleged that Buttafuoco told undercover investigators how to file phony insurance claims for undamaged cars.
