The Alexandria, Va.-based Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America's Virtual University is rolling out 98 new courses to teach agents business and technology skills.

“The goal of the [IIABA] Virtual University is to support agent development through innovative online learning 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Madelyn Flannagan, vice president of education and research for the IIABA.

“These new online learning courses,” she said, “will help users access a diverse library of content right at their fingertips that will serve as reference tools to aid with day-to-day, on-the-job questions, as well as be an integral part of an ongoing personal and professional development plan.”

The new course topics include:

o Marketing development and management.

o Recruiting and interviewing skills.

o Business skills.

o Microsoft Office series training (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc).

o Financial management.

The Virtual University said it has partnered with SkillSoft, a provider of online courses, to expand its offerings. The SkillSoft courses are now available exclusively through the IIABA Virtual University through an agreement with Career Concepts Inc. of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., a career management and human resource consulting firm.
