The Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc. said it is offering a new online course, “Developing an Environmental Risk Management Strategy.”

The course, offered through a partnership of RIMS and Environmental Strategist Inc., focuses on mitigating environmental risks such as mold, arsenic-treated lumber, silica dust and sick building syndrome, by reducing liability exposures, litigation, business interruption, compliance costs and disposal expenses, RIMS said.

The course, it was explained, contains modules to illustrate consequences of reactive strategies compared to the advantages of adopting a proactive environmental strategy.

“One of the most critical questions for business leaders today is who is your environmental strategist and how is the environment impacting business,” Chris Bunbury, president and founder of Environmental Strategist Inc., said in a statement. “RIMS is one of the first organizations to endorse this concept and share it with its members.”

Through case studies, reference library articles and discussion forums, participants will learn to proactively use competitive environmental intelligence to minimize environmental exposures and improve company profitability, RIMS explained.

Credit from the course will also qualify toward the RIMS Fellow (RF) designation.

According to the RIMS Web site, strategies developed from the seminar will involve the eMS TEAM, including upper management, risk/safety, environmental, legal, accounting/financial, real estate, insurance and front line employees.

The online seminar will also illustrate how involving vendors, subcontractors, distributors, suppliers and transporters can help protect an organization against an indirect environmental loss that can impact operations.

Environmental Strategist Inc. is a provider of proactive environmental strategy education for professionals in the insurance, risk management and financial services sectors. To register for the course, visit http://www.RIMS.org/devenviron.
