A California chiropractor faces up to five years in prison and/or up to $50,000 in fines for homeowners' insurance fraud

According to the California Department of Insurance, Michael Keklikian, 38, suffered a water loss at his home, which, as a result, damaged several rooms. He submitted an estimate on the letterhead of contractor Martin Nehme for repairs to his insurance carrier in the amount of $168,443. Keklikian's insurance company paid the claim based on the estimated damages. He then notified his insurance of an additional damage and submitted another estimate, also on the Nehme letterhead, in the amount of $38,604.

The Department of Insurance Fraud Division investigation found that both estimates were fraudulent. Nehme said he did not prepare or sign the estimates Keklikian submitted, and that he was hired by Keklikian to perform tile work repair and only provided a contract for $13,000 for the completed work.
