The Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) said it is hosting a two-day RIMS Fellow workshop, “Alternative Risk Financing Techniques,” to help risk managers develop a comprehensive alternative risk financing strategy and sell it to management.

The seminar, Feb. 23-24 at the New York RIMS Office, will be facilitated by Donald J. Riggin, who has worked in the alternative market for nearly 26 years, RIMS said.

The session will teach all aspects of nontraditional risk financing techniques, RIMS said, including captive insurance companies.

Workshop topics include an introduction to the alternative risk financing market, captives and risk retention groups, financing risk in the captive markets, self-insurance, and integrated risk, according to the RIMS Web site. Those who attend will also learn to design a comprehensive alternative risk financing strategy and sell it to senior management–in financial language.

Credit for the RIMS Fellow designation will be given and an early-bird discount of $50 is available until Jan. 23. For details and registration information, visit: http://www.RIMS.org/altfinnyny.
