Susan Cross, the chief actuarial officer for Bermuda-based XL Capital Ltd.'s reinsurance operations, has been named the company's new global chief actuary.

Ms. Cross is replacing James McNichols, who XL Capital said will leave the company at the end of April to pursue other interests. The promotion is also subject to Ms. Cross being approved by Bermuda's insurance regulators.

In her new position she will report to the company's president and chief executive officer, Brian M. O'Hara. Ms. Cross has been with XL since February of 1999, when she was named senior vice president and chief actuary of XL America Inc. She was appointed to oversee the actuarial duties of XL's reinsurance operations in August 2004.
