All the advice discussed here applies equally to adjusters and claim professionals. The knock on claims is that it is a black hole that absorbs money, a cost center that sends dollars out but never generates any. Underwriting and Finance are seen as the sexy areas, the ones that bring in money.
Although the characterization is unfair, it is, nevertheless, prevalent. As a result, whether claim professionals work in insurance companies or adjusting organizations, they must market themselves and their accomplishments to higher-ups and other departments. Those companies that invested in claim staffing are reaping marketing rewards for it now by running television commercials showing how they are helping Hurricane Katrina victims. Maybe having a good claim department can generate business after all.
