Although our focus is what risk managers need to do for property loss recovery, adjusters and claim operations need to prepare as well, especially in cases of Katrina-scale calamities. Preparedness includes having compelling and credible answers to the following questions:

  • Do you have the staff to address an influx of property loss claims? Can you hire temps, cat adjusters, or others on short notice?
  • Do you have a cat team in place?
  • Do you have mobile claim units available to reach stricken areas?
  • Do you have systems set up to trigger early warnings and to activate crisis response plans when large storms loom?
  • Do you have adequate supplies, temporary housing, and communication infrastructures to let adjusters do their jobs of handling property losses under crisis conditions?

Use these questions as a starting point to get ready to respond quickly and effectively to property loss recovery claims.
