Scott Levine, of Boca Raton, Fla., has been convicted of stealing more than 1.5 billion data files in what federal officials believe may be the largest case of intrusion of personal data to date. Levine, who ran a bulk e-mail service, was found guilty of breaking into the computer records of Acxiom Corp., which manages personal, financial, and corporate data, resulting in losses of more than $7 million. The 144-count indictment included charges of conspiracy, unauthorized access of a protected computer, access device fraud, money laundering, and obstruction of justice. Jurors acquitted Levine of the money-laundering and conspiracy charges.
