The Insurance Hall of Fame inducted three new members: Walter Kielholz, executive vice chairman of the board of directors, Swiss Re, Switzerland; D. Ignacio Hernando de Larramendi (1921-2001), former chairman, MAPFRE Corporation, Spain; and Sir William Meredith (1840-1923), creator and founder of Canada's workers' compensation system.
William Haddon (1921-1985), the first director of the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety in the United States, also was honored. He received the Dr. John S. Bickley Founders' Award Gold Medal for Excellence.
