Ripping its plot lines from the headlines, the original CSI television series recently ran an episode in which mold was the culprit, as well as the instrument of justice. While investigating the death of a seemingly otherwise health body builder, the pathologist finds that his body has been riddled with mold, which is eating him away from the inside out. The official cause of death is Mucormycosis, a mold-related infection, exacerbated by steroid use and a weakened immune system.

The crime scene investigators track the source of the mold to a bullet hole in a water pipe near the HVAC system. The bullet hole was determined to be the result of the bodybuilder's murder of a prostitute while in a steroid-fueled rage. Thus, justice was served. And who says mold is all bad?
