Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc announced the appointment of Dominic Burke as chief executive of the brokerage group.

His appointment follows the announcement last year that London-based JLT would search for a chief executive to take over from Executive Chairman Ken Carter before the end of 2006. Mr. Carter has retired as chief operating officer.

Mr. Burke was previously a director and chief operating officer. His appointment fills an opening created by the departure of Steve McGill in November amid a souring profit picture.

JLT said Mr. Carter will relinquish his role as executive chairman but remain chairman until April 2006, when he will also retire from the board. The company said Mr. Carter will remain with the group until December 2006 to ensure a smooth transition.

The company said that also in April, Geoffrey Howe, 56, currently joint deputy chairman and senior independent director of the group, will be appointed chairman.

Mike Hammond, chief executive of JLT Risk Solutions Ltd, has resigned from the group effective Nov. 30, according to JLT. Dominic Collins, chairman of JLT Risk Solutions, has assumed executive responsibility for that business.
